Assessing the state of an ecosystem, the first step for its conservation
A team from Québec-Océan, composed of postdoctoral researcher Filippo Ferrario, professors Ladd Johnson and Philippe Archambault (U. Laval), and researcher Chris McKinsey (Fisheries and Oceans Canada), adapted the Ecosystem-Based Quality Index for the shallow subtidal ecosystem of the Baie des Sept Îles. They demonstrated its usefulness in capturing and assessing the reality of a local system and developed an R package. Their results were published in the journal Ecological Indicators.
